On Sunday November 5th, the Benares Historic House in Clarkson puts on a special Downton Abbey theme.

As per the official event description: Join us and discover the “upstairs and downstairs” stories of the Harris and Sayers families and their domestic staff. Tour the house with guides who will highlight the lives of the family during the war years.

If you’ve never been to Benares Historic House, November 5th would be a perfect time to visit and get an extra special tour of the beautiful house. Not only do you get a tour of the premises by guides in-character, but you will also be treated to a traditional English tea, along with biscuits and gossip!

Shows like Downton Abbey became popular for their depictions of early 1900’s England; a time period that was as scandalous as it was glamorous. The fine folk at Benares Historic House put on a heck of a show for anyone who loves the show, or is simply interested in the time period, but don’t just take my word for it:

It is a step back in time and to think that the house was kept that way for so many years. Its a must see even if you dont make the Cream Tea, a tour of the house is a must. If you wish to have the Downton Abbey experience you must book first and check for availability.
