Studio PAVAS is a private school of the arts offering year round educational instruction in Performing and Visual Arts (art, music, drama, and dance) for students of all ages, from children age 3 1/2 to adults.

Since 1997, more than 12,000 students have attended classes at Studio PAVAS, ideally located in southwest Mississauga with close access to Oakville, Clarkson, Lorne Park, Port Credit and Erin Mills.

“There are so many skills that children learn by taking dance classes, over and above the steps or techniques of dance,” says Suzanne Zakoor, Studio Director/Owner of Studio PAVAS Performing and Visual Arts School in Mississauga. “The job skills we are consistently building on include team work, time management, commitment, respect, and how to succeed. It’s not just about winning a trophy at any cost. It would be great if at the beginning of any dance competition that other teachers would say to everyone competing, ‘okay, now let’s enjoy, learn from the experience and perform well.’ My teachers that are teaching competitive or technique students have a supportive, positive teaching philosophy.”

Classes are offered in dance from the classics like ballet, pointe, jazz, and tap, to hip hop, acro, tumbling, Latin, and contemporary.

“Kids who are good in math tend to do really well in tap because it’s all about numbers and sequences,” says Suzanne. “Other popular dance styles include ballet, contemporary dance and hip hop. Hip hop is really popular with the boys.”

“We have many students who have been in plays, movies, TV series, who are professional singers, performed in Mirvish productions and this fall, one of our younger students, who is 10 years old, has just been accepted to attend the National Ballet School of Canada.”

Not everyone will make it to the National Ballet or become a star of stage or screen, but that’s okay, says Suzanne. “We can teach children the physical, mental, social and emotional skills needed to excel at dance, art, music or drama, but they have to love what they are doing and be committed to practice to be able to excel and be at the top of their field,” says Suzanne. “In the meantime, they are getting physically fit and learning lessons which will last a lifetime.”
