On Tuesday November 14th, Mississauga councillor Sue McFadden broke ground on a new community centre near Erin Mills.
Housed within the modern facility will be a 25-metre six-lane swimming pool complete with therapy tank, a teaching kitchen for those wanting to enter the culinary world, a triple-gymnasium, as well as meeting rooms and much more.
The new community centre will also boast a sports park across 65,000 square feet of land. Upon this excess of land will be two full-size artificial turf soccer fields – one with a dome for dynamic weather – walking trails, a playground, splash pad, skate park and basketball court. It truly is set to be a one-shop-stop for all things sports, learning, and community events.
The councillor who has been at the helm of the new facility, Sue McFadden, shed the details and talked about the incredible new building and grounds: “I’ve seen the preliminary designs of the building and this community centre is going to be spectacular. The architecture and design has really captured the environment, history and cultural flavour of the area in a beautiful way.” McFadden has been working on getting the permits for the new facility since 2015, following a strong demand from the local community for an indoor pool. Well the community will be getting their pool and so much more.
“I am so thrilled that we are getting to this stage of the project,” continued McFadden. “It’s been a long process with a lot of complex planning issues, but construction is about to begin and that marks a major milestone toward having a much-needed recreation facility here to serve the residents of Ward 10 and beyond.”
The project recently broke ground at 5320 Ninth Line, right along the western border of Mississauga. Stay tuned for more details on a grand opening down the line, as well as more developments in the ever-evolving Mississauga landscape.
