Most of us may have already celebrated the New Year, and be well into breaking all of our resolutions and whatnot, but it’s almost time for another celebration.

The Chinese New Year officially begins on Tuesday, February 5th. However it’s actually several days worth of celebrating and we know the best place to commemorate it in Mississauga! But first, here’s a little description of China’s 2019 from the event organisers themselves:

Always Well-rounded and Auspicious” is a Chinese New Year message from Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founder of Fo Guang Shan. 2019 is the Year of the Pig, an animal that symbolizes a way to round up the year and start a new beginning of life. One homophone for ‘pig’ is ‘all’ or ‘everything,’ which also represents a good wish for all to have a well-rounded and auspicious year.

Yes the Year of the Pig is upon us and the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto is the place to be – while it says Toronto, the Temple is actually located at 6525 Millcreek Drive. So what’s happening at the Temple? There’s lamp lighting as an offering to the Buddhas, sounding the peace bell, chanting services, and more. The Chinese New Year is a holy event but one that welcomes one and all to come and partake. See the activities list below for full details!
