Canada has really been a roll these past couple of weeks, as Canadians are carving out a path to ensure that the world knows that we’re not just America’s neighbour. Starting last week with Bianca Andreescu winning the US Open, becoming the first Canadian to do so and putting the tennis world on watch.
You can now include another amazing Canadian who is ensuring that all eyes within the entertainment world are on her. Lilly Singh debuted her late night show yesterday, becoming the first openly queer woman of colour to host a late night show on a major network.
The show “A Little Late With Lilly Singh”, focuses on the classic late show format as she hosts celebrity interviews, current events, performs musical and sketch comedy and plays games. To give you a quick recap, in the debut episode Lilly had The Office alums Mindy Kaling and Rainn Wilson join the show as guests.
For those looking to get a little bit of background, Lilly Singh rose to fame through her Youtube channel which covered everything from her own views on topics to the more sketch based comedy. These sketches focused primarily on daily life situations and circumstances.
With everything from the evolution of girl talk to more mundane tasks like making a good sandwich. There are also some great live opportunities, where Lilly would open the floor for her subscribers to ask questions (basically an AMA). As the channel grew, there were also notable celebrities that got involved, like Zendaya and Terry Crews. Check out this great skit below.
Only time will tell if this Canadian maven will further create a larger impact within the entertainment world, but it is great to see that someone who would be considered a minority is making a difference. Along with also simply removing the perceptions of Asian entertainers as a whole.Canadian Lilly Singh Makes History On Television
