We’ve spotlighted many restaurants here on YourSauga over the past year or so, but every now and then we cover one that really stands out from the pack. Mississauga has no shortage of high-class restaurants but today we want to take a look at one located in the heart of Clarkson.

Solstice Restaurant and Wine Bar was opened back in 2005, by three brothers, Vince, John Paul, and Andrew Angheloni. The name was chosen for the day the family immigrated to Canada on June 21, 1986.  In the 13 years since, the brothers have established Solstice as the premier fine dining spot in Clarkson Village, thanks to the peerless ambiance, incredible service, and authentic Italian cuisine.

Solstice’s interior design is modern but not abrasively so; it’s laid-back and comfortable but still classy; it’s low-lighting and subtle colour-scheme makes it perfect for date nights, anniversaries, birthday parties, other celebrations, and work functions.

We mentioned that John Paul Angheloni was one of the three wise men that formed the restaurant, but he’s also the head chef! After spending some years in Italy, learning the authentic tricks of the trade, John Paul returned to Ontario to ply his trade and curate a menu to die for.

Solstice’s lunch starters consist of Truffle Frites, Char Grilled Spanish Octopus, Calamari FrittoSuppli ala Romana, and a daily soup. Not to mention the addition of Steamed Mussels, Polenta Mushroom Board, and Baked Panko Crusted Goat Cheese if you come forr the dinnertime starters. Then there’s the lunchtime salads, which are far from your average leafy greens: Warm Goat Cheese & Beat Salad, Steak Salad, Blackened Salmon Salad, and then your standard Garden Salad, and Caesar Salad.

Sticking with lunchtime, you might want to try one of the many delectable sandwiches, from a standard Reuben to the more classic take on an Italian sandwich the Autostrada Panino. There are five sandwiches to choose from, each of which come with a salad or French fries.

As for the dinner menu, it’s divided into multiple sections, which include Insalata, Pasta & Risotto, Entrees, Pizza, and Sides/Appetizers.

Kicking-off with the Pizza menu, you’ll find two standard options in the form of a Margherita and an Americana. Beyond those however, things take a tasty turn: Calabria, Goat Cheese & Rapini, Arugula & Prosciutto, Nonna (my favourite.  gorgonzola, walnuts & honey), and Quattro Verdura. Each of these pies offers a vastly different palette, and the Nonna in particular is worth checking out with it’s decidedly fruity twang.

Next up we have the Pasta & Risotto menu, which consists of Homemade Potato Gnocchi Pomodoro, Penne Bolognese, Mushroom & Goat Cheese Risotto, and Strozzapreti Alla Vodka, among others. As you can probably tell, Solstice takes its pasta game very seriously and, as such, the restaurant is often cited for it’s absolutely perfect pasta. And, of course, gluten-free and whole options are available!

And then there’s the entrees. The star of the show some might say, and that’s certainly the case here. Solstice offers 10 OZ New York Steak, Kobe Burger, Grilled Salmon Filet, Pan Seared Branzino, and, my personal choice, the Veal and Shrimp. It’s hard to beat surf & turf, and Solstice’s veal is cooked to perfection, which makes the adorning shrimp all the better. As for sides and appetisers, you can throw in some Tiger Shrimp, Lobster Tail, Sauteed Rapini, Sauteed Onions, Brussel Sprouts, Smoked Bacon, or Truffled Polenta, to add a little something to your meal.

private dining mississauga

If you’re like me, you like to top off every dining experience with some unnecessary but oh-so-good dessert options! Solstice has you covered there too, with Profiteroles, Creme Brulee, Raspberry Cheesecake, Homemade Tiramisu, Gelato, Affogato, or even just some seasonal berries! However, if you’re too stuffed for that, just grab one of the many speciality coffees on the menu!

And, as you may have gathered from the name of the restaurant, Solstice is also pretty serious about wine. It wouldn’t be at all hyperbolic to suggest that Solstice has one of the most extensive and impressive wine menu’s in all of Mississauga, so it would be foolish to attempt to list it all. Here is a link to the official wine menu, which might get you a little lit just by looking at it!

In addition to great food and service, the restaurant offers private dining for groups of up to 90 guests in a recently updated private room that is perfect for corporate and family events.  If you can’t make it to the restaurant Solstice can easily get to you.  They offer delivery with Uber Eats and Skip the Dishes and for larger crowds they also launched a catering division called Solstice Catering Co.

Solstice is pretty darn great, and we’re not the only ones who think so. Check out some of these raving reviews from Mississauga natives who’ve been to Clarkson’s finest restaurant recently:

I found this restaurant on a Facebook ad. It looked really good. I live close by so I decided to give it a try.
I went with my girlfriend and had an amazing time. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. You can tell they take pride in what they do because the owner greeted, welcomed us and engaged in small talk. Not many places offer that welcoming and cozy feeling.
I had the strozzapretti alla vodka while my girlfriend had the pappardella con fungi. They were both incredible.
If you are interested in a restaurant that is modern and chic in Mississauga, Solstice is the place for you. I will definitely be going back!

I was craving a pasta with loads of vegetables and didn’t see such a thing on the menu so asked the waitress. Without hesitation she said they would create what I wanted. I was served the best vegetable loaded pasta primavera I have had in ages! And I enjoyed it with a glass of wine sitting on their cute outdoor patio. Great service and great food!

Celebrated two baptisms at Solstice. In the two occasions they have provided exceptional service. The atmosphere was great, the size of the room was perfect for everyone to feel comfortable and the food was fabulous. Everyone at the party had nothing but good things to say. Definitely recommend solstice to anyone looking to host a party or even for a nice dinner out with the family.

This is my absolute favourite restaurant around. The staff are friendly and it’s nice to see the same faces. The decor is modern and elegant as is the table setting. Head chef always makes time to say hello and makes sure everything is just perfect. Every dish I’ve tried on the menu has been excellent and I’m never disappointed. Fresh quality ingredients are used. Pasta is always cooked to perfection. It’s also nice to see that there are regulars that are respected and appreciated. If you haven’t tried Solstice I would say you need to go and try it out. It’s modern/classic Italian food at it’s best! Lastly, always, always, always get the calamari. You won’t regret it!

So that’s the word on Solstice Restaurant and Wine Bar. It’s got a huge menu of incredible food, authentic to both Canada and Italy. It’s a treasure trove of taste, and the wine menu ensures you’ll be able to wash it down with some of the very best bottles in the city, nay the province!

The Angheloni brothers have crafted an incredible menu to mirror the beautiful restaurant they proudly call home. Mississauga is home to so many great restaurants, but Solstice is one that you simply must wine and dine at. You won’t regret it!
