Bread and Honey Festival is this weekend! The annual harbinger of summer is nigh! While the days are getting longer and the trees and flowerbeds are finally coming into bloom, there is another herald of imminent summer. It’s not the kids who are getting frantic in anticipation of the end of school. It’s not the homeowners finally getting around to taking down the Christmas lights or that the runners have shed their parkas for spandex and shorts. No, the annual sign that summer is about to begin is the return of the Streetsville Founder’s Bread and Honey Festival.
Held on the first weekend in June at Streetsville Memorial Park, the B&H has been a local fixture since 1973. This year’s edition promises to be another grand time filled with returning favourites and some new events as well. Aside from Saturday morning’s parade and a plethora of vendors throughout the park, ‘Sauga – Teens Got Talent returns to the upper parking lot and an Art Expo will be on display in the Village Square.
As usual there will be live music (country on Friday night and a range from pop to big band to funk on Saturday) in the ball diamond and the ever popular beer garden close by. Of course the rides are a draw, but Busy Bee Island will be the focus for the younger set with their own stage featuring characters from Frozen in addition to superheroes and other performers.
For more detailed information, visit the website at www.breadandhoney.ca or simply come by the park Friday 5pm-11pm, Saturday 10am-11pm, and Sunday 10am-6pm. Tickets are $3.00 on Friday and $5.00 per person on Saturday and Sunday, with children under four, free.
In a time of ever increasing complication and hectic pace, climate change and persistent strife globally, the relevance of the family-centred festival is even more pronounced. Come join in the fun. It’s time to get your sticky on!
