Canada is no stranger to great beer. Often when the topic of the best beer in the world comes up, North America is left out of the discussion for European giants like Guinness, Stella Artois, Heineken, or Blue Moon. And even then, the most commonly cited beers come from the U.S and Mexico; Corona, Sam Adams, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and Modelo.
All of this is to say, Canada is unfairly overlooked when it comes to the topic of alcohol. Whether it’s Great Lakes, Belwoods, Muskoka, or Beau’s, there’s no shortage of fantastic breweries to choose from in Ontario. Mississauga in particular is home to a great brewing company in the form of the Old Credit Brewing Company, but we’re about to expand with the addition of an exciting new company.
Stonehooker Brewing Company is making its way to the Lakeshore Road area, not far from Port Credit. The brewery will be opening on September 14th but you can already try out their first beer at The Crooked Cue right now!
Stonehooker is a fairly new company, but it’s made a good first impression with it’s first offering: Broad Reach Nor’Easter. The beer is an Indian Pale Ale, rather orange in colour, that evokes tastes of pineapple, passionfruit, and pine, which it goes down smooth with just a hint of bitterness on the back-end. Well worth a try if you find yourself in The Crooked Cue, or Port Credit in general.
Of course, Port Credit already has the Old Credit Brewing Company since 1994, but the more the merrier we say. When the brewery opens (in less than a month), it will feature a tap room and a retail store, which will include a lager, imperial stout, porter, milkshake IPA, and double IPA, among others. Each beer on offer will have a specific theme and distinct flavour palette, meaning there should be something to satisfy all tongues.
Even though it’s a new company, Stonehooker will bring tons of tradition with it. Check out the official website for the full history of the brand, but suffice to say it is steeped in Canadian lore and has some special ties to Port Credit itself. So be on the lookout for the Broad Reach Nor’Easter beer, and get ready for the grand opening of the brewery on September 14th!
