The April 30th deadline for filing your income tax return is fast approaching. Need tax preparation assistance? Here’s something that may help you: low-income residents of Mississauga—as well as those of other areas of Peel —can get free tax preparation services offered by the Region of Peel.
According to non-profit Prosper Canada—an organization working to benefit economically disadvantaged Canadians—more than $1 billion of income benefits and tax credits aimed to improve the financial situation of those most in need, are never claimed. If you have a modest income and a simple tax situation, it’s best to get that free professional to help you take advantage of all the credits you may be entitled to.
Although actual income tax rates for 2017 are the same as for the year before, there have been various changes to tax credits. Some credit tax credits available in recent years have been eliminated by the Liberal government, while some have been newly created.
If your income is $30,000 or less, or your combined family income $47,500 or less, you can make an appointment to get free help filling out and filing your income tax return.
In Mississauga, there are two locations for free tax assistance: one in the Hurontario neighbourhood (7120 Hurontario), and the other near City Centre at 99 Acorn Place. Sessions are held on Saturdays, until April 28.

The Region of Peel has partnered with the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario to offer this free tax preparation assistance. They’ve doing this for the last 14 years. Last year, they helped with the filing of 2,500 tax returns by residents of the Region of Peel.
