Summer is almost here and nothing beats a perfect day for a picnic at one of Mississauga’s must-try picnic spots. Having an outdoor picnic is a memorable way to enjoy the outdoors. So grab your picnic blanket, basket and relish in some much-needed time with nature. Mississauga has an array of outdoor spaces, parks and a beautiful waterfront ready to meet your picnic adventure.
A little planning can go a long way – try to have a good location in mind. The best spots usually have picnic tables, a flat area to lay a blanket down, garbage and recycling containers, shelters and restrooms close by. Some even come with in built-in barbecue grills and water faucets.
Did you know you can bring your own propane-powered barbecue in City parks. If you’re looking to try something a little different – why not go litterless. Look at bringing a reusable water bottle, packing your picnic food favourites in reusable containers and dishes. This is a simple action that helps keep unnecessary waste out of our landfills.
Depending on the size of your picnic party, you might have to get a permit. Groups of 25 or more require a park permit, which are only issued to Mississauga residents and businesses. A park permit allows for reserved use of a specific park area and any amenities associated with that space. Accessible seating is available at most permitted picnic sites.
Don’t forget, picnics aren’t just for weekends, long-weekends and holidays. Why not make them part of your of your work week as well. If you live or work close by to a park, leave the car and consider walking, taking MiWay or cycling.
