We’re back with another restaurant spotlight and this one will be perfect for these unusually cold spring nights.

Fired Up!, located right in the heart of Port Credit, is one of the town’s most modern and most popular restaurants. It’s fiery exterior is emblematic of the intense cooking techniques and exciting menu within.

The restaurant opened in 2016 and immediately caught eyes, ears and noses of passers-by; Fired Up! renovated a very rundown space to open an awesome red brick and grey wooden building, complete with shiny black lining, rustic patio, and fire pits that really drive home the aesthetic and tone. What really catches peoples attention however, is the open window kitchen that sends succulent aromas for passers-by.

Once you step inside, the tone is sustained but a little more relaxed than the intense flaming exterior. The red brick walls are adorned with some classy decor including faux animal heads, horseshoes and exposed light-bulbs. Black leather booths and rustic tables make for comfortable seating, and bright yellow writing on the wall reminds you where you are. It’s fair to say a log cabin was surely the inspiration.

As for the menu, it’s a little different than most restaurants in the city. Fired Up! is, primarily, a barbecue restaurant that infuses southern U.S and California to create a style of BBQ all to itself. The menu consists of starters, salads, seafood, pasta, grill, burgers, ribs, platters, sides and desserts, as well as the special oyster Tuesday menu.

On the starters menu, you’ll find Fried Calimari, Mac and Cheese Croquettes, Duck Confit Poutine, and Pan Seared Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna. The croquettes are an interesting twist on the classic mac and cheese formula, and costs $14, making it one of the cheapest starters on the menu. The duck poutine is really worth a shot, as it consists of truffle oil infused frites, pulled duck leg, black river cheese curds, and homemade gravy.

Fired Up! doesn’t boast a big seafood menu, however it does offer something the other restaurants do not, and that is Grilled Octopus. This spectacular dish is spiced and marinated octopus in a tasty casserole, and it’s certainly worth trying if you’re looking for something different than the standard calimari and shrimp.

Speaking of the grill, Fired Up’s grill is perhaps the focal point of the entire restaurant. The grill is the part of the kitchen that faces the open window to the outside world, and that’s the case for a good reason. On the grill you can find Chicken Piri Piri, 14oz Bonein Kansas Steak, Lamb Chops, or the incredible 46oz Tomahawk Steak. The steaks range from $26 to $65, which is fairly standard pricing for an upscale steak, however the 46oz Tomahawk Steak costs a whopping $145! The price is huge, however Tomahawk Steak is often considered the very best in the world and that price is completely regular.

Fired Up! also boasts a menu of burgers, for those looking a cheaper option to steak. There’s the Lamb Burger, Salmon Burger, Surf and Turf Burger, and the signature Fired Up! Burger. The Surf and Turf burger is a fantastic option that includes an 8oz patty, chilli spiced shrimp, caramelised onions, roasted garlic aioli, tomato chutney, and a sesame bun.

The final menu option worth note is the platters. If you come with a group of family or friends, you can order one of three platters: Meat Platter, Seafood Platter, and Wild Game Platter. The latter option costs a mere $31 and includes grilled venison, bison chipotle, wild boar sausage, garlic crostinis, and pickled vegetables. The other two platters cost a lot more but you can choose whichever suits your situation best.

Fired Up! is a really popular restaurant in Mississauga’s restaurant hot-spot and that says something. Particularly in the summer months people love to swing by the exciting-looking restaurant that serves some incredible meats and seafood on an open grill. And even if you aren’t heading in that direction, the undeniable smell is likely to catch your nose and drag you inside where you won’t want to leave.
