Mississauga is a foodie’s dream. There are more restaurants in the city than one can shake the proverbial stick at, and new ones are opening on a weekly basis. It’s worth noting that the most common type of restaurant in the city, is most certainly Italian.

Italian cuisine is very easily found in Mississauga, but that doesn’t mean you should just settle for the first you find. Rather, you should seek out the very best Italian restaurants in the city, and today we’re here to tell you about one of those: Ombretta Cucina + Vino!

Ombretta Port Credit

Ombretta is a restaurant that can be found in Port Credit. And when we say found, we mean that quite literally, because Ombretta is quite well hidden. The restaurant is located at 121 Lakeshore Road West, which is just down the street from Starbucks and Captain Robin’s. Once you notice the rather disguised restaurant, you walk down a short flight of steps and walk inside the classy restaurant.

Ombretta’s interior design is much more distinct and noteworthy than the exterior. Beige walls, brown leather booths, low-hanging lights, and plain wooden tables, belie the restaurants top-quality service, atmosphere, and menu. Really, it’s quite a simple affair but one that works to create an atmosphere of class and style, mixed with relaxation. And that’s something the owners of Ombretta set out to achieve. The duo worked together for a long time, and here’s a little excerpt of their story:

Frank Mazzonetto and Anthony Maniccia have been friends since grade three. These two longtime friends, who have a strong, shared vision made it a reality. Frank and Anthony launched a successful food truck business in 2012 called Frankie Fettucine Food Truck Company. They had a 5 year plan to open a physical location and was able to achieve their goal 6 months ahead of schedule. On June 1st, 2017, Chef/Owners Frank and Anthony fulfilled one of their dreams by opening Ombretta Cucina + Vino in Port Credit, Mississauga. The restaurant was designed by themselves so when you take your first step inside, you’ll be immersed in Frank and Anthony’s labour of love that oozes class, style, and warmth.

Of course, friendship, passion, and hard-work can only take you so far. In the case of a restaurant, the menu is perhaps the most important thing and, in the case of Ombretta, the menu is the most impressive thing!

Kicking things off with Cicchetti – or appetizers – you have some unique options like Bolognese Spring Rolls, Grilled Artichokes, Warm Marinated Olives, and Sicilian Roasted Cauliflower. Those are quite uncommon options for appetizers and, better yet, they range from $9 to $14! This unique starter menu offers plenty of great options that set the tone for the rest of the meal.

Up next, we have the Antipasto menu, which includes Forest Mushroom Salad, Arugula Pear Salad, Grilled Calamari, Warm Beat Salad, and Fresh Mozzarella. As you can see, the pattern here is uniqueness! The average price of these offerings is $15, so you’re going to get some tasty options for cheap!

The next menu section we want to tackle is titled Secondi, which basically means ‘meats’ in Italian. This section includes Chicken Supreme (pan seared, bone in breast, warm quinoa salad, & lemon & extra virgin olive oil), Branzino (pan roasted European sea bass, warm caponata salsa, & lemon vinaigrette), Ontario Lamb (grilled half rack of lamb, vin santo blueberry jus, roasted potatoes and sautéed vegetables), Butchers Prime Cut (roasted portobello mushroom, roasted potatoes, sautéed rapini), and Ossobuco (crispy fried gnocchi, Chianti braised veal, fresh mozzarella, veal reduction, remolata). Unlike many of its peers, Ombretta doesn’t offer dozens of main course options, it instead aims to master a handful of incredible dishes!

What kind of Italian restaurant would Ombretta be, if it didn’t have a dedicated pasta menu? Well it most certainly does, and it consists of Lucana (fusilli pasta, spicy sausage, chili pepper, rapini, aglio e oglio sauce), Pescatore (fettuccine pasta, seared scallops, tiger shrimps, calamari, chili peppers, white wine tomato sugo), Puttanesca (tagliatelle pasta, black olives, capers, 24 chilli pepper, grilled chicken tomato & basil), Bolognese (pappardelle pasta, traditional pork, beef and veal ragu), Funghi (pappardelle pasta forest mushrooms, white wine truffle cream), Risotto Con Gamberi (cured tomatoes, arugula, pan seared shrimp), and Bianca (Gnocchi, sausage, sundried tomatoes, sage cream sauce). If you find yourself in the mood for some authentic Italian pasta dishes, and you will, Ombretta is the place to go!

And finally, Ombretta’s mouth-watering menu offers four desserts: Crostata Italian Fruit Tart, Pannacotta, Budino Al Ciccolato, and Creme Brulee. The most expensive of those only costs $11, so you won’t be breaking the bank for your dessert!

As per usual, we want you to see other peoples opinions on Ombretta, rather than just ours. Well, the restaurant holds an incredible 4.8 stars on Google Reviews! Below are just a handful of the most recent reviews of Ombretta from Google:
