It’s not hard to find Italian cuisine and, in particular, pizza in Mississauga. However finding quality pizza is a much harder task. Today we shine a spotlight on one of Mississauga’s best Italian cuisine restaurants: Papa Giuseppe’s.

Papa Giuseppe’s is a beautiful little restaurant in Port Credit. The building is one of the most unique and pretty in all of Port Credit, with a brick exterior, and the restaurant’s name in green against a red backdrop. Darkened windows, a screen door with metal bars, and lanterns by the door create a surprisingly welcoming European atmosphere. It looks very homely and warm, which certainly makes it an attractive location during cold, winter nights.

The interior of the building is similarly nice and simple. The roof and the walls have wood panelling, as well as some low-lighting, small tables for intimate dining, and an exposed kitchen. Restaurants rarely feature exposed kitchens because, as the name suggests, it allows the customers to see everything. As the old saying goes, nobody wants to see how the sausage is made, however with a restaurant like Papa Giuseppe’s that specialises in pizza and pasta, there isn’t much particularly unpleasant food preparation. Exposed kitchens show a real faith from the owners. The restaurant also has a beautiful little patio out back with fairy lights.

Papa Giuseppe’s has been a staple of Port Credit since 2011 – there’s also a location in Burlington – and one that serves “traditional Italian food in a cozy Italian-setting”. The restaurant specialises in pizza’s made in its Moretti Forni oven, antipasto, house-made sangria, sandwiches, and pasta. So let’s get to breaking down that menu!

Well kick-off with the most important aspect, the pizza! Papa’s offers ten different pies on its menu; you can get the classic Marghertia for $17.99, or if you’re in the mood for something with a little meat you can grab the Tre Porcellini (Italian sausage, spicy soppressata, pancetta, mozzarella & pomodoro sauce) for $18.99, or the Genovese (roasted chicken, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, bocconcini & pesto sauce) for $20.99. If, however, you’re looking for a more vegetarian option, there’s the Al Formaggi (prepared bianco topped with mozzarella, goat cheese, parmesan & a special blend of herbs & spices), Mediterranean (sundried tomatoes, balsamic cipollini, artichoke hearts, olives, mushrooms, goat cheese, bufala mozzarella & pomodoro sauce), and others. You can ask for gluten-free crust if need be.

Moving on from the pizza pies, Papa’s also serves up some great sandwiches. There are three different sandwiches, A La Parmiagiano (provimi veal cutlets or chicken breast prepared a la parmigiano served on our house specialty bun with your choice of toppings), La Casa Nostra (House made meatballs, sautéed peppers, onions, sausage, mushrooms, topped with hot peppers, green olives and mozzarella cheese), or my personal choice, Cappi’s Grinder (A toasted hoagie loaded with salami, soppressata, capicola, provolone & cheese topped with tomatoes & hot banana peppers). The sandwiches range from $18.99 to $24.99.

As for pasta, Giuseppe’s has a eye-popping seventeen options on the menu. Needless to say, we’re not going to run through them all but here are a couple we think you should try out; Smoked Duck Carbonara (spaghetti with smoked duck, mushrooms, arugula and egg in a white wine carbonara sauce); Lobster Ravioli (pasta pillows loaded with Atlantic lobster served in a decadent herbed butter cream sauce); or Cappi’s Tortellini (four cheese stuffed tortellini tossed in your choice of Genovese pesto cream sauce or a la vodka cream sauce with pancetta). You can’t go wrong with any of those options but feel free to check out the other options on the menu!

Papa’s also offers desserts in the form of Gelato, Canolli Dippers, Lava Cake and more. In terms of appetizers, you can expect Calimari, Bruschetta, Cozze Italiano, and my personal choice, Roman Spears. We’ve only really scratched the surface of the extensive menu, so be sure to check it out for yourself.

As always, we don’t expect you to take our word for it. Papa Giuseppe’s has a 4.5 out of 5 stars on Here are a handful of reviews from the website:

One of our favorite Italian places in the suburbs. Place is not fancy, but we are there for the food. Service is always friendly and efficient. Crowd is a mix of regulars and out of town people. Won’t get the snooty feeling you get from the west of Mississauga. Authentic pizza, love the mussels, really good pasta, and also enjoy the specials. Reasonable prices, good portions.

Food was fresh and tasty…staff was pleasant and helpful. Definitely be back when we’re looking for something casual. Arrive early it fills up quickly and it’s a small restaurant.

We finally made it to Papa Giuseppe’s. Since they don’t take reservations, we planned to get there a little early for lunch, worked in our favour. Love the atmosphere, front of the restaurant was cozy with great decor. Love the vintage Chianti posters and chef sculptures throughout. There was a back area looked like en enclosed patio, would be better in the summer. The coziness of the front of the restaurant was perfect. We started with Sangria and calamari, cooked well. Entrees were, duck carbonara, fettuccine, lobster ravioli, and Tuscana pizza – blanco version (white – no red sauce), dessert was Afogato. Everything was excellent. Pastas were incredibly flavourful, pizza was cooked perfectly and Afogattos (vanilla gelato topped with espresso) were delicious!!! We’ll definitely be back. So glad we were finally able to make it.
