For today’s restaurant spotlight we’re diving into a Port Credit staple: The Pump House Grille.
The Pump House has been a staple of Port Credit since it opened in 2003. Situated on the corner of Lakeshore and Stavebank, it’s impossible to miss with its red brick walls and black awning out front. And in the summer months you’ll find a large patio with glass surrounding, perfect for a sweltering day.
Inside The Pump continues the red brick decor that adds to the casual atmosphere. Contrary to most other bars and restaurants, The Pump has a circular bar in the middle of the room, surrounded by TV’s and tables, and then there’s a more low-key restaurant portion in the back. It’s a jack-of-all-trades with its sports bar out front, outdoor patio, and subtle restaurant in back.
Fittingly, the menu at The Pump is also a mixed bag of casual fare and fine dining, it just depends on what you’re after. There’a s large array of foods and more beers than your mind can comprehend. Bucking tradition though, we’re gonna start with their “World Famous Wings and Things”.
The Pump offers some of the best wings in town, which you can order in single (10), double (20), or party portions (50). Flavours include mild, medium, hot, suicide, honey garlic, southern cajun, dry cajun, jerk, lemon pepper, hot & honey, 40 creek. You can also get your winds grilled for something a little healthier.
Perhaps if wings aren’t your thing, you’d like to try the poutine, nachos, chicken tenders, onion rings, sweet potato fries, or one of The Pump’s nine burger options. Our recommendation here would be the Bacon Blue burger, which comes with double smoked bacon, caramelised onions, mushrooms, and blue cheese.
Next up we have the Pasta & Bowls section of the menu, which includes chicken fettuccini, linguini diavolo, curry bowl, fettucini stroganoff, butter chicken, and more. The average price of a bowl or pasta is $20 but it’s a pretty big portion.
For something a little more casual, to go along with a hockey game or something, how about a sandwich, quesadilla, wrap, or taco? Well The Pump offers such items as Tex Mex taco, beef dip sandwich, buffalo chicken wrap, chicken panini, lobster quesadilla, or sliders. All of which come with fries, salad, soup, onion rings, or french onion soup.
And finally we have the “Pump Faves” section of the menu, which is essentially the entrees. Here you can find AAA steaks, St. Louis ribs, cajun catfish, whiskey salmon, beer battered haddock, chimichanga, toasted coconut chicken, and fajitas. The average price of an item here is $22.
So, what do other people think of The Pump House Grille? Well that’s why we like to take the time to consult Google Reviews to make sure we’re not the only ones who enjoyed the restaurant. This was my first time here and I would definitely be going back. I would recommend going here to anyone in the area even if it’s just to get a quick drink. The staff were really friendly and the service was excellent. I wasn’t planning on eating but I decided to try the French Onion soup and it was delicious. I also had a Caribbean Comfort which was really good as well.
