Life can be hard as a vegetarian. Not because you desire meat because, for the most part, that isn’t ever a factor, but because there simple aren’t enough places that cater to you. I say this as a meat-eater but someone who has been with vegetarians and realised how frustrating it can be.

Thankfully, Mississauga is growing in this area with every passing year. Restaurants such as Raw Aura, Dai Bi Chay, Guru Lukshmi, The Lotus Tea House, and more, are fighting the fight for those who have chosen the veggie lifestyle. And more power to you.

That’s why today, we’re shining a spotlight on one of Mississauga’s most unique and impressive vegetarian restaurant: Veggie Planet!

Veggia Planet is a pizza and burger restaurant that, obviously, doesn’t use any meat. For example, you can order the Planet Special, which is veggie ground, Drishil(Vegetarian Pepperoni) round, seasoned kawa/timi, and onion. The Planet Special looks exactly like a regular pepperoni pizza but contains a third of the fat. This is the pie that I ordered and I was genuinely – and pleasantly – surprised by how fantastic it was. As someone who is not a vegetarian (and probably a little ignorant), I expect everything to taste like lettuce and have the crunch, but this tastes like great everyday pizza. And that’s maybe the biggest thing to note here, it’s not just great veggie pizza, it’s great pizza.

So, moving on from gushing about that particular pizza, you can also order the standard Veggie Pizza (green pepper, onion, carrot, cheese), Indian Masala (green chilli, ginger, garlic, onion, carrot, tomato, coriander, cheese), Italian Pizza (black olives, onion, sun-dried tomato, basil, mozzarella and feta), Chaat Pizza (Planet Special with chutney, chaat ingredients, topped with sev, coriander, yoghurt, cheese, spices), and loads more. Each of those pies looks great and like something everyone could enjoy, whether you’re a vegetarian or not.

Then there’s the burgers. Let’s be honest, vegetarian burgers are very hit and miss. Vegetarian patties are often made with beans, however Planet Veggie’s burgers are made with a variety of ingredients, including chutney, Kawa, Timi, potato and more.

Vada Burger is coated fried potato, a variety of veggies with special chutney, and comes with onion rings. The burger comes to $5.99 and is a really tasty burger that doesn’t leave you with the feeling that something is missing. There’s also the Kachori Burger, Kawa Burger, Timi Burger, Samosa Burger, and more. Each of those burgers comes with fries and costs $6.99 or less!

Beyond the burgers and pizza’s, you can also order Indian Tadka, appetizers, cold drinks, yoghurt, and pop. The restaurant holds an amazing 5 out of 5 stars based on 24 reviews on Facebook, and here are some of them:

Amazing mix of traditional style vegan food blended in with modern dishes like pizzas and burgers; very unique! Nice place to sit and eat also. Staff is friendly and very accommodating to vegan requirements.

So clearly we’re not alone in thinking Veggie Planet is top of the line when it comes to vegetarian cuisine in Mississauga. It joins the likes of Raw Aura in leading the charge to create a great array of food options to Sauga citizens.
