Change is often a good thing. Sure, it can be scary at first, but more often than not it winds-up being a good thing for all involved. Such is the case when a long-standing Mississauga restaurant recently closed its doors.

The Tilted Kilt was controversial to say the least, with its scantily-clad servers. In an era when objectifying women is rightfully becoming a thing of the past, places like The Tilted Kilt are dying out. If that disappoint you, then perhaps you simply need to get with the times.

As such, we’re excited to tell you about what has replaced The Tilted Kilt at 285 Enfield Place. The location, which is right by Square One Mall, has proven rather inept at sustaining businesses. However The Wave Bar & Lounge looks to bunk that trend.

Wave Bar Mississauga

“Mississauga’s newest Social Bar & Lounge offering a variety of local draft on tap, and a various selection of Wine’s and Whiskeys. Come catch all the games on our many TV’s located through out the restaurant or simply just enjoy a night out with friends. Enjoy great food and service in a social environment only steps away from Square One.”

The Wave is a modern restaurant and lounge; one that opts for a low-key interior design. It’s far from the most striking restaurant in Mississauga but that’s kind of the point, it wants to put the focus on the food and the comradarie. Simple grey walls are offset by a handful of electric fireplaces and plenty of TV’s. While the seats and tables are standard leather and wood. Again, nothing striking but the emphasis here is on a casual atmosphere and good food.

Speaking of which, let’s get down to the menu. The Wave offers rather classic pub grub, from the starters to the entrees. The starters include Fish TacosAhi Tuna Tartare, Chicken Wings, Truffle Fries,Charcuterie Board, and more. The highlight of the starter menu however is the Thai Nachos, which are crispy wonton chips layered with Thai chicken, sautéed onions, peppers, melted cheddar mozzarella, green onions, black and white sesame seeds, and drizzled with Thai sauce. It’s a fresh take on nachos and only costs $13, perfect for sharing! The average cost of a starter is $14, which is pretty much the norm for restaurants like this.

Beyond the standard salad section of the menu, you’ll find handhelds and flatbreads. These options include Smoked Salmon Wrap, Lamb Burger, Carolina Chicken Flatbread, Veggie Burger, Open Steak Sandwich, and more. The highlight, The Wave Burger, consists of brisket and chuck patty served on a toasted bun, garlic aioli, arugula, tomatoes, pickles, maple bacon strips, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions and melted aged cheddar. The average cost of an item here is $16, with The Wave Burger costing a little more at $18.

Which brings us to the main entrees; Mac & Cheese, Haddock Fish & Chips, Rib Eye Steak, Chicken Penne, Atlantic Salmon, Organic Chicken Supreme, and Mushroom Ravioli. While the star of the show is certainly the New York Steak. The 8 oz. steak is cooked to perfection (medium rare), and served with roasted potatoes, vegetables, and red wine sauce. All of these items looked fantastic and vary greatly in price.

Now that we’ve covered the menu, it’s high time we see what other Mississauga natives have to say. Even though The Wave has only been open for a short period of time, people have been flocking to the restaurant to see what all the fuss is about. As such, here are a few reviews from Google:

Chilled Out and Relaxed Environment offering Great Music and Private Booths. Food and Drinks are Reasonably priced. Bar tender, waitresses and managers are very well trained polite and respectful professionals attracting the right kind of crowd and for sure will be my everyday kind of bar. Keep it up guys.

I went with the hubby this Saturday night, surprisingly it was busy though newly opened. Despite being busy and fairly new our waitress was exceptional. We had thai nachos and calamari to start with and had the ribeye cooked to our liking. Can’t Complain.

The Wave is one of Mississauga’s newest establishments but it’s quickly establishing itself as one to watch. While the food is great and very affordable, it’s also just a fun place to come and relax. It’s becoming a go-to spot for locals to watch Leafs and Raptors games as it offers $4 pints of Coors Light and Molson Canadian.

The Wave looks to become Mississauga’s hot new social eatery. While we can’t say either way if that will happen, we can say with certainty that it stands a good chance. The food is top-notch, well priced, and the atmosphere is good. The Wave isn’t trying to be something it’s not, it’s good old-fashioned pub food with friends, and that’s fine by us.
