The Super Bowl is happening this weekend. It’s one of the most exciting times of the year, at least sports-wise, and this year will see the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers.

We recently talked about where you can go in Mississauga to watch Super Bowl LIV, and there are lots of great options for where you can go. However most people will be watching the big game in their home with some friends and family. And that’s what we want to address today.

Hosting a Super Bowl party at home is an awesome thing to do, but also not as simple as it sounds. You want to have a lot of different food available, while not blowing your money on stuff nobody wants, and you need to ensure your guests are comfortable.

So we’ll start with the latter and perhaps easiest aspect of planning your party. You’re gonna wanna make sure your guests have lots of space, while also being able to see the TV from any angle. That means maybe pushing the TV back right up against the wall, and angling your furniture in a C shape around it, with gaps in between to allow for quick exits to the kitchen and toilet.

In regards to other quick notes for preparing your space, crack a window or two just a little to allow for fresh air, maybe light a non-aggressive candle, and definitely move your rugs or throws that you don’t want ruined. Make sure the toilet is clean and equipped with fragrance sprays, just in case. It also wouldn’t hurt to have some wet wipes near the food and TV, so people aren’t wiping their dirty hands on your furniture.

Cleanliness aside, it’s time to talk food and drink. These are the two most important aspects of any Super Bowl party. If you can’t cook whatsoever, then you’re going to want to just order some pizza’s, some wings, and maybe throw some chicken fingers and such in the oven. Beyond that you can put out some bowls of chips, popcorn, M&M’s, and a small bowl of mints would be wise. A lot of people will bring their own beer, but it’s good to have a variety already chilled in the fridge. On top of that you should have some Coke, water, and wine for those who don’t want straight beer. It’s important to have options.

If you can cook though, that opens up a whole world of options. You can cook a host of dishes that will impress your friends and also save you some money. Rather than buy a bunch of pizza’s, make your own from dough. That’s honestly a lot easier than it sounds; you just need flour, olive oil, salt, water, and the toppings of your choice. Follow this recipe and you can have four pizza’s for $10-$15! On top of pizza, you make some chilli, some nachos, wings, and finger food to save tons of money. It’s important to know your guests and what they like to, or even can, eat.

As for where to buy the food, ingredients, and drink, your best and most timely option is to go to a supermarket that has it all, like Loblaws or Walmart. However if you don’t live near one of those stores, you can get everything at Battaglia’s, Metro, Whole Foods Market, Sobeys, No Frills, Cousins Market, LCBO, or Beer Store. While you’re there, grab some paper plates and plastic cutlery to make your clean-up that much easier. And if you want to do something a little different, you could hit-up one of Mississauga’s local breweries and get some unique beers and branch out a little.

And that’s pretty much all there is to planning a great Super Bowl party. You just need to ensure your living room or basement area is appropriately laid-out, aired, and equipped for a long night of eating, drinking, and toilet breaks. The food and drink is the most important aspect, so ensure you have lots of options for everyone that’s coming over. And have some hygiene products at hand to keep things as clean as possible and make your life easier when they’re all gone. Good luck!
